Top Level: Getting the CEO ready to face the media
Chances are, your CEO is nervous to face the media. Or they love it! In either case, disaster can strike!
Fo the nervous CEO, or the one who fears the media, preparation is usually not the problem. But when they trip over their words, many start talking (sometimes rambling) in an attempt to right their mistakes. They dig themselves into even bigger holes. Or, some go into shutdown mode and start using "No comment" as their crutch. They stop a positive engagement with reporters and get cold and distant. They start sounding evasive.
On the flip side, the CEO who absolutely loves the media might, without even realizing, allow their egos to dictate how the interview process goes. They might look the part and act the part, but they dramatically underprepare. They might think because of their engaging style that the media will give them the benefit of the doubt in the case of a slip-up. Sometimes they're right. Eventually it will always come back to bite!
We prepare your CEO to love and respect the media. We teach the right things to do to prepare, as well as how to control the message during the interview. We coach on how to talk in sound bites, how to say things that can't get truncated, and what to do when caught off-guard with a question out of left field.
We can do this with the CEO 1-on-1, or with the CEO and the company's top PR person. At the end, they can "own" the media, yet not put themselves in a position where hubris will be their downfall.
Let's be honest: most top-level executives got to where they were because they are smart, ambitious, hard-working, good communicators. They rely on other people all the time. At the same time, they might want to show their vulnerability in their media relations. Or, they might realize that the advice they get on communications isn't what they're looking for. They might just want a top-level communicator to talk to when there's nowhere else to turn.
ChappyPants Media does 1-on-1 phone or video coaching – around your schedule. We can help you bridge the gap between where your communications skills are now and where you'd like them to be. And what's more, there's nobody else on the line! It's just you and your coach. Nobody else gets the feedback you get. It's totally confidential. You come across to the public and your employees just like you want, but without sharing the vulnerability.
So whether you're the CEO or the company's top PR person, this is something that can help you while maintaining absolute discretion.
We can accommodate up to 10 people in a personal setting. There is value in having people all learn the same top-notch techniques! They can hold each other accountable for putting into practice that which they've learned. Whether it's a business or networking group, this is a great way to go because it's big enough to get a good per-person value, but small enough that we can customize to your group's needs.
The difference between this and speaking at conferences or seminars is this is a very hands-on coaching with breakout sessions and report-backs. It takes longer but has immediate results-driven performance as its goal. Also, unlike conferences or seminars, this coaching is done on-site or at a site designated by you.
Speaking at conferences or seminars
You know how most conferences turn out! Half the participants are asleep. The other half have a glassy-eyed look and are mentally already at the hotel pool. And then, of course, there's just that one person furiously writing notes. And because the conference is so boring, everyone else knows there's no way that individual is legitimately interested, but is probably just trying to get brownie points. Trust us, we know what these conferences and seminars are like because we've slept through the same ones!
If you are planning a conference or a seminar, and want a good public relations aspect, we can do it. We can work with you on whatever your individual and group conference or seminar needs are!
